Kassandras - GR
Founded by Matthieu Prat in 2015, KASSANDRAS exists as a distinct and potential found space in the Athenian landscape of abandoned construction sites and derelict buildings. Located in the Votanikos district, it inhabits a skeletal concrete structure acting as a laboratory of research in architectural prototyping and experimentation, functioning as a scale 1:1 model. Designing and producing constructions, installations, micro-architectures, the project convokes people, space, intuitions and technics through site-specific interventions, workshops or events. By questioning the revitalization of a derelict building, KASSANDRAS aims to contribute bringing the users back into the process of building and using architecture as a pretext for a cultural and social act. With its abandoned construction sites and unfinished buildings, the city of Athens, and, on a wider scale, Greece, offer a major potential for the development of a case-specific methodology for activating or converting these lost « territories ».
